First developed in the mid-1990s, laser hair removal is today the most popular aesthetic procedure performed in the industry. It is popular because it is safe and efficient, and permanent hair removal means that you no longer have to go through the constant inconvenience and discomfort of waxing and shaving, particularly in hard to reach areas such as the back. At Aatman Wellness & Medispa, we offer trustworthy and efficient permanent hair removal solutions in Brisbane with the Gold Standard Alma Soprano XL. Laser hair removal with Alma Soprano XL  is a gentle and painless experience, even for those with sensitive skin. For smooth, hassle-free skin, make an appointment in one of our clinics now — we’ll take care of the rest.

At Aatman Wellness & Medispa, we prefer using laser hair removal over Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, simply because it is more effective than IPL hair removal. Although IPL is a cheaper treatment, lasers are much more accurate and leave the surrounding skin undamaged. It can also cover a wider area than IPL. Our commitment to providing only the best services for our clients is why we offer only the best treatment possible.

How does laser hair removal work?

Through the use of laser machines, a single wavelength is produced with a highly concentrated beam and specific target. This allows for accurate targeting of designated areas, eliminating unwanted hair forever. Around 6 -8 treatments are necessary to ensure the hair is fully removed, but fortunately each treatment requires no recovery time, meaning you can immediately be back to going about your day after receiving treatment. The convenience and efficiency that laser hair removal offers is what has made it such an enduringly popular treatment. For the best prices in Brisbane, look no further than Aatman Wellness & Medispa.

FAQ

What Is The Difference Between IPL and Real Laser Hair Removal?

There is often some confusion when it comes to understanding the difference between IPL and Laser Hair Removal. Both treatments produce energy in order to disrupt the growth cycle of each hair follicle to reduce hair growth without damaging the surrounding tissue. However, this is where the similarity ends.

At Aatman Wellness & Medispa only laser technology is used for hair removal. The main differences between Laser and IPL hair removal, lies in the technology that each use to generate the light. Laser technology is simply much more effective, and achieves substantially better results than IPL – 90% of patients have permanent hair loss after 3-5 sessions.

  • IPL is a cheaper, less effective technology for reducing body hair.
  • Lasers are far more precise, and can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
  • Each laser pulse takes a fraction of a second and can treat several hairs at a time.
  • Laser hair removal can be used to treat larger body areas.
  • Laser settings can be adjusted to suit specific skin tone and hair colour.
  • Lasers are safe for all skin colours, whereas IPL can cause burns on darker skin tones.
Laser

Laser machines produce a single wavelength of light (pure light consisting of one single colour and form), which has a very concentrated beam and specific target (the melanin in hair follicles). The type/colour of hair and skin will determine the tuning settings of the machine. Laser machines are tuned to emit the exact wavelength required to treat specific hair types.

Laser machines create more heat directed at the hair follicle than IPL systems, hence achieving better results. The follicle and not the skin absorbs the heat. Therefore there is a decreased risk of burning when using Laser machines thus making laser a safer option for darker skinned individuals.

IPL

IPL plays an important role in the treatment of the skin, such as treating superficial pigmentation and fine blood vessels. However, for hair removal this treatment isn’t as effective as laser removal methods, and here’s why…

IPL’s are not lasers. The machines produce a broad spectrum of wavelengths (like a light bulb) and cannot be focused to a concentrated beam. Because a range of different wavelengths is dispersed at a variety of depths only some of these will be effective for hair reduction.

A more shallow penetration in comparison to laser means that deeper, thicker hairs are not treated effectively. In addition, some of the light cannot be absorbed into the surrounding tissue as well, leading to heating of the pigment in the skin. This is why there is more of a risk of burns for a darker skin type.

The cost of a Laser treatment in comparison with IPL is higher, however there are a number of factors that determine this price difference. Factors include the different costs of the machines (a laser machine is much more expensive to purchase); the different efficacy of the treatment (laser is much more effective than IPL); the different requirements to use a laser as opposed to an IPL (all our clinics must be registered by Qld Health and Radiation, while some beauty salon can offer IPL treatments without being licensed). This is the reason that the same areas, such as legs, underarms etc, might be priced differently from one outlet to the next.

Should I shave before the treatment?

Shaving the day before or just prior to treatment is recommended.  Shaving can be resumed twenty-four hours after treatment unless the provider tells you otherwise.

Is it safe?

Laser hair removal is the most popular aesthetic procedure performed annually. Hair removal is one of the aesthetic medical industry’s most well-known and researched uses of lasers and the treatment has provided safe and effective permanent hair reduction for thousands of patients worldwide. Because it utilises IN-MOTION™ and low-heat settings it provides a level of safety unlike any other laser hair removal procedure.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, 6 to 8 treatments is adequate to provide permanent hair reduction. However, after a one-on-one consultation, the provider may determine that based on the hair density, hair colour and skin colour, you may require additional treatments.  It’s not unusual to require a touch-up treatment two years after completing laser hair removal treatments.

Will my hair ever grow back?

Actively-growing hairs that are treated should not grow back. Once a hair follicle is damaged it cannot grow hair. However, hair follicles that were not in the active growth phase will need to be treated. It’s also not unusual for patients to have a touch-up two years after initial treatment due to hormonal changes.

Why do I need 4 – 6 treatments?

Hair growth occurs in 4 stages: Early Anagen (early hair growth), Anagen (active hair growth) Catagen (regression) Telogen (resting, not growing). Laser hair removal only affects the Anagen stage, (actively growing hair). Therefore, approximately twenty-five-percent of hair is removed with each treatment. After 6 to 8 treatments, the area should be free from hair. Click here for more info.

Do I need to arrange time off from work for treatments?

No, the treatment has no “down time” and requires no recovery time. You can have a treatment and return to work, school or other normal activities immediately.

How do I know it really won’t hurt?

Most people find the laser hair removal treatment comfortable, especially when compared to other hair removal methods and lasers. This is one of few laser hair removal procedures where numbing cream is not necessary. Pain is subjective, however, so if you find it otherwise simply talk to your provider.
